Cookies we set ourselves

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our pages, including which guides are read, how people move through the site, and roughly where traffic comes from. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (names beginning _ga) to distinguish visitors; the data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. We set no other cookies: there are no accounts and no preference cookies, and the site works normally with cookies blocked.

Embedded videos

Some pages embed YouTube videos using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you choose to play a video; once you press play, YouTube may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.

Cookies set by advertising partners

This is an affiliate website. When third-party advertising banners are displayed, or when you click an affiliate link through to an insurance provider, those third parties may set cookies from their own domains, typically to attribute the referral (so commission can be tracked) and, depending on the partner, for their own advertising measurement. These cookies are governed by the partners’ own cookie and privacy policies, which are linked from their websites.

Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; every major browser lets you refuse third-party cookies entirely. Blocking cookies will not affect anything on this site itself, though it may prevent affiliate partners recognising that a referral came from us.
